At its heart, Project Tempest is about using stories to navigate a world going mad. It's a path of creator conversations, folk horror, weird beautiful art, and people who experience the world from interesting angles.

(Which, not-so-secretly, is nearly all of us)

As 2022 closes out I'm so proud to bring the strange imaginary town of Tempest Bay into version 2.0. The new site is rich and deep, with stories, podcasts, art, articles, and more.

This is the next step in what we've been shaping for the past year. It's been quite the journey so far, and there's much more to come.

Thank you to everyone who listens, writes, connects and responds. Most of all, Kearin & Prea have done incredible work every step of the way.

The lifelong relationship between a woman and a sentient bookstore, beginning on the wild coast of New Zealand in 1908.

... Are you a good thing or a terrible thing? the girl said in a tone of voice her mother used to use. 
The thing didn’t comprehend or answer. 
Well I think you’re a good thing, she said. My thing. 
She grabbed the bundle. Although it was still heavy and mostly wet with sea water she began hauling it along the shoreline, over the rocks, towards her home. 
The thing retreated inside itself. The thing remembered more, from the hungry event that had happened out on the ocean. It remembered the screams. But kept them buried down in the safe pulpy nest of the bundle, like eggs, for now.

Three months in Tempest Bay now.
