The Project Tempest world keeps expanding. This update, famed Lovecraft scholar S.T. Joshi joins us on the podcast, we're nominated for the Shirley Jackson awards, and On The Beach, a really cool Tempest Bay interactive experience, has hit early prototype stage.

We've always intended Project Tempest to be a story world where creators of all kinds can come and shape their own journeys. It's happening more and more, and it feels great to keep bringing people into the team. Prea Millar, a kiwi playwright, actor, and theatre producer, has joined us to work on the podcast - welcome Prea!

The Project Tempest podcast is where we talk about creative journeys and what's on our mind.

S.T. Joshi is an American writer, musician, critic and award-winning scholar whose work has covered much weird and fantastic fiction, especially H. P. Lovecraft. Incredibly prolific with over 350 books published, he has also expanded into areas such as atheism, weird poetry, race relations and political discussion.

Calling himself a 'cheerful pessimist', S.T. led us on a journey through a life very well lived indeed.

Shirley Jackson Awards

'Her Mad Song', the most recent Project Tempest novella, is a finalist in the Shirley Jackson awards.

Shirley Jackson wrote such classic novels as The Haunting of Hill House and We Have Always Lived in the Castle, as well as one of the most famous short stories in the English language, The Lottery. Her work continues to be a major influence on writers of every kind of fiction, from the most traditional genre offerings to the most innovative literary work.

The Shirley Jacksons sit alongside the Bram Stokers as the leading horror writer awards, so this helps out Project Tempest quite a bit. Stay tuned!

ON THE BEACH

‘What on earth happened here...?’ 

A wild, lonely stretch of coastline. A dark tower. Mysterious journal. And a ritual secret to unlock that will haunt your dreams...

On the Beach is an early prototype of a Tempest Bay interactive experience being built in the Unreal Engine. It’s a ‘walking simulator’ in the tradition of Dear Esther, Gone Home, and Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture.

The player begins on Tempest Bay beach, investigating the signs of a bizarre ritual. By collecting journal entries and exploring the environment, a moment of dark truth is revealed.

On the Beach is one of several projects being built by creators using the Project Tempest Workbench, the living breathing creative space where people have the source material to shape their own journeys in Tempest Bay. Check out the early screenshots and video here, and stay tuned for more.
